PHOTOS & COMMENTS

We adopted Wilson from you one year ago - we just celebrated his one year anniversary with us! Wilson is a delightful addition to our family. When he's outside, he spends his time running in the back yard and playing tag (and occasionally swimming) with the pool sweep. Inside he's content to snooze on HIS recliner or play tug-o-war with his toys. He's learned some tricks which he'll be happy to do for a snack. He loves his evening walks and reminds us when it's time to go. He loves to have his face and ears scratched and noses under our hands to make sure that happens.

We wanted you to know how happy we are with Wilson. We've sent a couple of pictures so you can see how well he's doing.

Thank you for your help with finding Wilson.

I would truly like to thank all of those at Cocker Spaniel Rescue that have worked so hard to save so many beautiful dogs. Judi did such a wonderful job when she fostered Tulley after he was rescued from the Kansas puppy farm. I am truly thankful to her for taking care of him until I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to adopt him. I have had Tulley for just over 2 years now. Though he was a little timid for a few weeks, he quickly became the happy, sweet, well-natured dog he is now. I can't imagine life without my little "shadow", neither can his brother Pedro, my long-haired chihuahua. They love to run around the back yard together, chasing squirrels or checking out new smells.

Tulley, Pedro and I will be moving to California in November to a wonderful new home, with of course a back yard with all kinds of new smells. Tulley also loves to run through puddles, so I'm sure he will be just fine walking on the beach!

I can't thank Cocker Spaniel Rescue and Judi enough. So many people's lives have been touched by these little angels.

Sincerely,
Tania Petts

On August 11, 2003 I adopted an angel........I have changed her name to Jessie and she told me that she is completely happy with my doing this!!!!
I just had to let you know what has happened to Jessie since her original bio. She has proven to be the best thing that has ever happened to me and to so many other people! We have gone through training/Delta Society and passed our training with Montgomery Pet Pals and have become Certified Therapy Partners. I can't begin to tell you what all she has done.....we work with abused boys on Saturdays at a state facility in Tomball. She can somehow pick out the neediest boy there, each time that we go.....she interacts with the 41 boys like you wouldn't believe. One of the things that the human partner has to look for and be very aware of is not to let our dogs get "stressed" in any way. Jessie lets these boys climb all over her and never seems to mind one bit. We go to Senior Residence I & II twice a month. Jessie is so calming and loving with these precious these senior citizens that you would not believe it....some of the ladies even "bake" her treats!!!! We also go to CRMC and visit patients that would like to have us stop in for just a little while. All of the partners take turns going on Tuesdays. I would like to tell you about one of Jessie's visits....1st patient we saw was in so much pain, I couldn't figure out why she wanted a visit. It wasn't long before I found out....after visiting for a few minutes, Jessie got up and started licking the bottoms of her feet. I tried to pull her away, but she just kept on licking....come to find out this women had a nerve disease that made it almost impossible for her to walk. Jessie's licking felt so good to her that she wanted me to just leave her there. How did Jessie know to do this? Next patient was a 4 year old little girl that had not slept in "2 days"....her parents were going nuts! After only being there a few minutes this little girl was laying on top of Jessie.....next thing I knew, Jessie had turned on her side and the little girl was using her as a pillow and was falling asleep! I am so proud of her......she has such a profound effect on people. the last thing that happened was we were walking to another room and there was a man in front of us who had just had heart surgery and was moving VERY slowly. Jessie slowed down almost to a stop.....instead she just stayed about 4 feet behind him. When he turned the corner, we turned the other way and she just picked up her usual walk....how did she know to do this? I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea! There are so many other things that have happened with her that if I told you about them, you would put me in a padded room. Each one of the partners have to find were they work best....I guess that I could take her to any place, school, libraries, etc. and she would love it. When I put her MPP scarf on and tell her that we are going to work, man she is ready !!! No one could ever tell me that she was not a gift from GOD. Thank you so very much for bringing this angel into my life. GOD sent her to you, you gave her to me, and GOD gave her more love than she could ever share....so that is just what she does......share love.
Thanks again and love to all of you......

Hello,
My name is Buddy and I just got a new home in Rosenberg, Texas. Don't I look happy? My new mom took me for a long walk in the neighborhood when we got home and I am ready for another one. My new mom and dad are really happy to have me.

Hello,
Here I am with my new mom, Kathy, and Hobo! I just got here and had so much fun discovering all the new scents in the backyard! I have so much more to figure out, like these cats...I have gone on point to alert everyone here that they are around, but no one seems too excited! I found this basket full of really neat dog toys and am having fun pulling everything out!! This is going to be a great place for me! I am carrying around this big blue cloth squeak bone and mom is laughing because she says my whole back end is wagging while I parade around and she talks to me! I'll send more letters as I settle in...you will always be my first Mom! Rudy Tootie Fresh and Fruity

Judi: We just want to thank you for nursing Rudy back to health and taking such good care of him until we could become a part of his life! Thank you so very much. Kathy Doty
We adopted Daisy May (formally known as Dorothy or Dottie) in September at the Petsmart #207 on Dairy Ashford. She is the sweetest dog. Daisy and our Clancey (an 11 year old schnauzer) have become fast friends. Daisy goes everywhere with us including our last camping trip to Galveston.

Daisy has had her teeth cleaned as promised. We also give her daily vitamins to improve her coat and we care for ears. As you can tell she is well taken care of and loved very much.
Thank you,

Rod and Fran D'Angelo
BEFORE AFTER
Here is another one of our success stories! Thank you so much for adopting Whitney!
Dear Cocker Kids

I see your success stories on-line, and felt the need to tell you how my adopted cocker has blessed my life. It's been two years since we adopted Schizo (he was named Sam, but Schizo is more appropriate for his personality!)!! He has become an irreplaceable part of our pack. His funny personality keeps us laughing, and his cuteness gets lots of "oh, how cute" when on a walk. He is such a snuggle buddy and always there to console when I'm having a hard day. I've never known a dog so loving!
We originally adopted a dog named Scooter from you, but within 24 hours knew that he and the dog we already owned, were not meant to live together. :-( But, your organization completely understood! So, when we met in a parking lot to return him...one of your very smart volunteers brought "Sam" along, to see if maybe he'd be a better fit for our pack. Well, he and our other dog, Heidi, hit it off instantly! Now they are best buds and get upset if not around each other. Thank you for being so understanding with the switch and "knowing" I'd love Sam/Schizo. Just look at this picture...how can you resist?

We lost our Cocker Spaniel, Jake, in September of 2003. We had him for only 4 years. We found him outside our house. We lost our Yellow Lab, Maggie, on Christmas Eve of 2003. We had her for 9 years. Our remaining Black Lab Mix, Maxx, is now king of the hill. Dom really missed Jake and we both missed Maggie.

Our daughter lives in Spring, Texas. She suggested we check your Web site. We did and fell in love with Webster and Jordan. We decided to adopt them and at the last moment, along came the Amarillo dogs. Lucas, now Dino, was sooo sad looking. We just couldn't pass him by. So, we adopted the three of them in February of 2004.

We were going to have them flown here to Maine but the airlines would not fly animals when the weather is bitter cold. So, I decided to drive to Texas, spend some time with our daughters and then drive back to Maine with the 3 dogs. I had a wonderful time with them and had many compliments each time we stopped to rest.

Mission accomplished! We all arrived here in Maine in March and the dogs experienced snow for their first time. It was fun watching them react.

Each one has his own personality and for the most part, they get along with each other. Our big dog, Maxx, just loves playing with Dino the most. Jordan is nicely recovering from hip surgery and can't play like them but he does a good job of retrieving things. Webster is like a soft little bear cub. He is just so adorable and cuddly. He also is great for retrieving things. Dino is also a lap dog. We love each and every one of them and enjoy their company as much as we think they enjoy ours. They are a lot of fun and give us many laughs. We are blessed again!

Dom
Dear Donna,
It is because of you and Cocker Rescue that I have finally found my home at last! I have a wonderful sister, Lilly, who is showing me the ropes and teaching me how to use my new doggy door! My family takes me for walks every evening when it cools off and I am having so much fun learning the sights and smells of my new neighborhood. This picture is of me, Lilly (the black cocker), Travis and Katy (the kids in my family) and Caroline, Katy’s friend. They love to play with me and throw my favorite red squeaky football you sent home with me. How truly blessed I am to have been saved by such generous and loving people as you and the rescue team. I know I was expensive to repair, but please know that all of your generosity, love and care has given me a second chance at life and happiness. God bless you all and thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Love and licks,

We just wanted to tell you that our new cockerkid has adjusted very well to life in our family. Pooh- now known as Julia- was very timid initially, but she has blossomed and learned to accept kids and noise. She knows when to retreat to her own bed when she's feeling anxious. Although we were told that she didnt like men much, she has bonded to my husband to the point that she will drop whatever she is doing when he is around and sretch her legs up to give him hugs and kisses.
We had her groomed today and wanted to send you a picture of her with her prettty little pink bows on her ears. Julia has helped our daughter Rachael heal from the pain of losing her little miniature schnauzer in the summer.
Thank you for all your good work.
Andrea Rudnik and family
We adopted Princess May 31 and I just had to write and say, she is absolutely precious. She is beautiful, she has to be the smartest dog in the world (she's our kid, now). We couldn't have found a more "dream" dog!!
Thank you so much. Just wanted to let you we're still in love.....and she's in good hands. We may tend to spoil her, but other than that, we take good care of her.

Thank you for doing what you do.

I am sending you a picture of Coco and hopefully one of Coco and his sister (Claire, the cat from God). Coco is doing great - he is a prince of a dog! Thank you for all you did for him and caring for him so well. He is the dog from God - and ya'll are angels on this earth! Love to you from Coco and much thanks from me!

Sunny Lee came to us as a foster. Her little personality was so endearing and brought light to our house during the difficult period when we lost our cocker of 13 years. Her constantly wagging tail earned her the nickname of "Our Little Sunshine Girl". The fact that she likes to be held like a baby is a plus too, because I am forever wanting to pick her up and carry her around. Each time we go out to the bathroom, I get a chuckle because she learned VERY quickly that when we come in, she gets a treat. Now, she makes a beeline to the refrigerator to patiently wait for the expected prize. My husband looked at me one day and said, "You don't need to take her to adoptions, she's ours." It just felt right. We can't imagine our family without her and we're so excited to take her to meet our family over the holiday. Cocker Spaniels tru..ely just latch onto your heart and become your forever baby. They add a bit of love and quirkiness to each day and each year you have with them is a blessing. Garrett and Duke....best pals! Thank you so much Melaney for adopting Duke and making him part of your family.
Dear Cocker Spaniel Rescue Friends,
After losing my beloved parti colored Cocker, Sescily, last February, my husband agreed to let me foster a cocker from CSR. We had Tyra 3 short weeks when Mary emailed me; wanting me to bring her to the next adoption…they needed some female cockers. We adopted her, because neither of us wanted her to get adopted by anyone but us! Little by little we discovered her personality. As Tyra became more comfortable with us and her new home we discovered what a sweetie she is.
One of my cats was absolutely terrified of Tyra, as she loves to play. The cat could not quite understand why Tyra would put her paw on the middle of his back! Now they are buds!
The only time we have seen Tyra aggressive is if one of the cats walks by her when she is playing with one of her toys or eating. Humans don’t seem to get the same reaction. Tyra knows no strangers!
I think she is happy to have a forever home; she cuddles up with us when we watch TV. She has to lie so close to you that she touches you. Tyra has got to be the sweetest dog I have ever had. She sleeps on the bed with us, between us if we let her. She is infatuated by birds, cats, dogs, frogs….anything that moves. We take her in the yard when we come in from work and she runs in circles, so fast that you just see a black streak going by. Tyra is so pretty and has a great disposition, she is a joy! I am so thrilled to have another loyal cocker.

Bosco's Story(formerly Docker):
Our Springer Spaniel daughter (Baylee) was being groomed one afternoon in February and the standard is that she gets a new toy when she gets home. So off to Petsmart (in katy) to get her a toy, when we walked in there was the Cocker Kids (rescue) and I was in heaven, I wanted every last one of them! However, while looking at these beautiful cockers my husband and I (at the same time) noticed this little skinny boy in a crate waiting his turn to be out. He had a mischievous look on his face just waiting to bust out of the crate and find trouble; we fell in love that moment! Remember we went for a toy, not to adopt a dog, but we couldn't help ourselves. We took him out of the cage and played with him for about 45mins and he was everything we thought, running around getting into everything.
We filled out the paperwork to adopt him and said we would meet them in the Sugarland Petsmart the following weekend to introduce Baylee to Bosco in hopes they would get along because our hearts were set on him joining our family. At the Sugarland Petsmart it went as well as expected, there was some grumbling but we figured we could handle it and they just needed to adjust to each other so off we go with Bosco to take him home.
We didn't know if he had ever had a home because he's approximately 2 years old and the Cocker Kids Rescue found him wandering the streets of Porter, Texas near death and had to nurse him back to health. He has an illness called Addison's disease therefore, he must have an injection every month or he will become very sick and die. Which makes him a special needs dog. Bosco had been in a couple of foster homes but he caused so much trouble that he was being kenneled in Conroe. I told you he's mischievous!! The first couple of weeks Baylee and Bosco were establishing the house rules (actually Bosco was having to learn Baylee's rules). We have had this little bundle of energy since February; he's happy, gained weight, healthy and enjoys having a big sister and 2 cats to pick on as well. He gets a visit to the doctor every month for his injection and his pill that he takes every morning with a bite of cheese. Baylee gets a bite of cheese too just because her little brother gets one. He’s still in the learning stages of house training but he’s coming along pretty well. Bosco loves his family and he can’t wait until his daddy gets home so he will throw the ball and wrestle with Baylee and Bosco. He has become very spoiled just like his sister!
We believe that Bosco was meant for our family. Please see the picture of Bosco and Baylee, his little eyes are closed because it was so darn bright out that day and mommie was trying to take my picture.

Hi Mary,
Just thought I'd give you an update on Sam. Sometimes I can't believe that we've had him four months already, other times its like he's always been with us. He is turning out to be a wonderful little character, getting more secure and confident all the time, nothing really seems to worry him. He is far more obedient now, knows his new name well, sits and waits at the back door to come in and doesn't just barge straight through and sits and waits for his dinner. Amazing in just such a short time. He is also getting much better when out walking, taking no notice of the joggers and cyclists in the park, though we still can't let him run off his leash. Its as if he leaves his brain behind and forgets that we are there! We know from the experience with our Springer Spaniel, that we just have to be consistent and patient and eventually he will learn. The times I nearly pulled my hair out with our Springer when she was young were! all worthwhile, always strong willed she was the most intelligent, obedient dog anyone could hope for and I am sure Sam will be just the same. He is devoted to Stewart and comes over "all unnecessary" - an English saying for getting over emotional - whenever Stew comes in. He is eating really well and has put on a pound or two (we'll have to watch that) and has completed his heartworm treatment. The blood test came back negative, so he is all clear and in perfect health now. We are about to take him for his second haircut, his hair grows really quickly and is in such lovely condition that you would never know he once had mange. Again, this is something that he takes completely in his stride and the groomer said what a happy little chap he is, no trouble at all.
I really am pleased to report that Sam has been such a success story - for you and us! I will send you reports from time to time and wish you all continued success with the cocker rescue program.
Best wishes

Carol Hayward
