Hello!
We are all fine and enjoying life. But.... looks like Callie will have to have some surgery on both her knees. Her patellas are subluxating and need repair so that later in life she won't have arthritis problems. The vet X-rayed her yesterday and confirmed my suspicions so we will get that done soon - one leg at a time. The difference is that 99% of dogs subluxate internally. Callie subluxates externally but apparently that is no big problem. Just another episode in her life. Poor little girl. Not fair! I decided to wait a month so that she can adjust a little more to life here before we do this. The vet feels this is not a major event and she will do fine. I personally am averse to surgery but this is a "must" I think.
Other than that, she is a delight. She is a charmer that entices everyone she meets to love her. I have hung the bird feeders on the deck and apparently this is a new thing for her too. She sits by the French doors and waits for their arrival and then barks and jumps on the doors attempting to get them as they eat. I am encouraging her to just sit and watch as Sherlock does but she is quite determined. I am hoping she will get over this jumping business soon. She is in and out the doggie door like a champ now. She has encouraged/nagged at Sherlock to play and he has finally gotten the idea. The race is on - all over the house. She also knows how to play ball and will chase, retrieve and drop the ball back at my feet - repeatedly. She will also bring the ball initially to me and demand my attention and play. She is a sharp little wizard. I think she is getting through the child like play she had earlier and is maturing a bit - or just getting used to our routines and rules. Besides all this, she is just basically cute and lovable.
Thanks for sending her our way. Just wanted to update all of you.
Ruth, Callie and Sherlock
