Adoptive homes for puppies are screened very carefully, so get your
applications in ASAP. Special conditions apply to puppy adoptions:
Puppies will be placed in homes on a "foster to adopt" status until spay or neuter is accomplished. Puppies should be neutered/spayed by the time they are six months old.
To start the process, fill out the Foster to Adopt a Puppy form. You will also be interviewed, a vet check done if you currently/recently have pets and a home check done. Completion of the foster form does not guarantee approval to foster and subsequently adopt a puppy.
Why does Cocker Spaniel Rescue charge $190 for mixed puppies and $265 for purebreds?
Because vetting costs the same for mixed breeds as for purebreds.
Because CSR covers three sets of puppy shots, bordatella, rabies, tail docking, heartworm preventative and spay/neuter for puppies
A $90 deposit is required for mixed puppies ($165 for purebreds).
Immunizations:
Puppy will have first two sets of shots (DHPP and one bordatella) at CSR expense by eight weeks of age (on May 25 and June 8)
A third set of puppy shots must be done. If you opt to have the third set of puppy shots done at your vet CSR will credit you $30. These should be done on June 22 but no later than June 29. Alternatively they may be scheduled through CSR at one of our vets.
Rabies should be done at four months of age. If you opt to have the rabies done at your vet CSR will credit you $10. Alternatively the rabies may be scheduled through CSR at one of our vets.
Spay/neuter:
Spay or neuter must be done before the dog is six months old. No adoption will be completed until spay or neuter is done.
CSR pays for spay or neuter if scheduled through one of our vets
Spay or neuter is at your expense if you use your own vet
CSR does not pay for pre-surgery blood work or post-op pain medication since it is unusual for a dog to need pain meds for spay or neuter.
If spay/neuter is not performed by age six months, CSR will revoke the adoption application and under the terms of the foster agreement and seize the dog.
Immunizations must be repeated when the dog is one year old (at adopter's expense)
Heartworm preventative will be given monthly. The first day of the month makes a good
benchmark. CSR provides the heartworm medication while in foster care.
If your puppy develops any health issues while in foster care, seek advice from a Cocker Spaniel Rescue
Board member for advice before taking the puppy to a vet (The exception being if the puppy is in
immediate danger and there isn't time to contact a Board member).
The adoption must be finalized in a reasonable lenght of time with adopter providing proof of third puppy shots, rabies, spay/neuter, proof six months of heartworm preventative has been purchased and the final payment of $100 or as indicated above.
Note: Deposit is refunded only if CSR requires the puppy be returned.
