MEMORIALS

This page is dedicated to our cockerkids that were lost while in our program. They are NOW in their forever home!

Baylee
(October, 2006)

It is a mystery to us why Baylee was neglected and unloved. She was a tiny, delicate little girl, friendly and sweet. Every rescue worker who met her adored this charming five year old. One of our volunteers even decided to adopt her.
The saddest thing is that all of Baylee's problems could have been prevented by caring owners. A mere $5 a month would have prevented the heartworms. Keeping her inside and cleaning her ears once a week with an inexpensive ear wash would have prevented ear infections and calcified ears. A Bordatella immunization might have prevented the respiratory infection. Dentals would have prevented the teeth infections.
Instead Baylee arrived in Cocker Spaniel Rescue with multiple problems but with her little tail wagging. She fought valiantly but the infections overwhelmed her.
Sweetheart, we love you.

IN MEMORY

"Keeley"

Even though you had such a short life, you touched our hearts in such a big way. You were so brave until the very end....we'll never forget you!
Mary & Rusty, Foster Parents

Randall
(September, 2006)

Randall was a "special" boy since his arrival into rescue 4 years ago. Afflicted with multiple and severe allergies, his care was always a challenge. He was adopted out once for 10 months only to be returned when the nurse who adopted him could not afford the extra costs for his care. Rescue tried everything including de-sentization injections to try and curb the incessant itching, scratching and hair loss. He was on special food, shampoo, and medications but in the end Randall's life was miserable.
Randall remained the sweetest boy with the biggest eyes pleading to be rid of the torment of his skin issues.
He seemed at peace when he crossed the Bridge in the loving arms of his foster Moms.
You taught us patience, Randall.
We will miss you.

AMOS (3 years old)
(May 16, 2006)

I will always remember the kisses Amos Moses constantly gave me. He was a very handsome guy. Amos had a degenerative eye disease that was causing him to lose his eyesight, and had obviously endured abuse in his short life. We will miss you and will see you some day at the Rainbow Bridge where you are happy and healthy.

With love,
Diane and Bob (Foster parents), Aunt Allie and Uncle Rick, Aunt Kim, Aunt Karen P., Aunt Karen T. and Cocker Spaniel Rescue
We've posted a poem in your memory.

RUFUS (6 years old)
(May 15, 2006)

Rufus had the biggest smile in the entire world - especially if you were heading toward his favorite room in the house - the kitchen! We in Rescue will always remember our Rufus…he came to us after the hurricane in Louisiana. He had two major ear surgeries, including the removal of his ear canals. But, in the end, there was too much damage to the nerves; we could not stop the pain Rufus was enduring.
Ru Ru, I know one day I will meet you again at the Rainbow Bridge where you will be pain-free and I can finally give you the big bear hug I have been saving up for you but could not give you while you were here on this earth.
With love,
Allie and Rick (Foster parents), Uncle Terry, Aunt Diane and Uncle Bob, Uncle Stan, and Cocker Spaniel Rescue
We've posted a poem in your memory.

Charlie aka Cha Cha Charlie
3/13/06

In memory of our foster, Charlie. By the time Charlie came into rescue and our home - he had been so abused that we were not able to help him. Charlie was a precious boy who had been abused to a point of no return. I am fortunate to have had 3 weeks with him.
In memory of Charlie and all those like him that never have a chance at a full life due to the actions of human beings - we will always remember you and we know you are no longer hurting or fearful now that you are at the Rainbow Bridge

Love you always, Charlie,

Allie and Rick (foster parents) and Cocker Spaniel Rescue

Phoebe
5/29/05
We lost Phoebe to heart failure over Memorial Day weekend. She had been doing so well on her meds, but her heart finally gave out. She was the best little girl I have ever fostered. She loved to cuddle up next to you and was dearly loved by all. Phoebe, we love you and miss you! Foster Mom, Mary, Foster Dad, Rusty, Aunt Judi, Uncle Terry & all the volunteers of CSR

Dear Granger,
You were one of the most wonderful cockerkids that I had. I'm sorry that you are no longer with us. I am grateful that you didn't suffer long though because you didn't deserve that. You had your little quirks about you but we worked through them. You really never were a lap dog but in the last 4 months or so, you started getting in our laps. I'm so glad you did. You were a great snuggler.
Thank you so much for putting your paw print on our hearts. We love you and miss you something fierce.

Love your foster family, David - Cindy - Brittany

MALCOLM EDWARD T-REX CLARK A/K/A THE SMILE

Malc Man came into Rescue on July 31, 2001..he was one of Rick's first foster dogs. We adopted him a few months later. Although Malc had health problems from day one, he always had the biggest smile and the biggest hug waiting for you. If you were not prepared, Malc's hugs would knock you on your rear end! Malc also loved his stuffed "babies" and usually had one in his mouth. He also loved to sleep on his Dad (Rick's) pillow!!
Malc crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge on Friday, April 8, 2005 while his mom (Allie) was holding him. Malcolm Edward Clark we will miss you always -- there is a huge hole in our hearts without you. But, we know we will see you one day at the Rainbow Bridge and you will be healthy and we will be looking for that hug! Thank you for your love and devotion.

We love you and miss you, Rick, Allie, Seth, Aunt Judi and your four legged brothers, Aspen Boudreaux and Kia the Cat and Cocker Spaniel Rescue

MARTIN

Martin, we fell in love with your "quirkiness". Your last year spent in rescue was probably the best of your life. We watched you blossom into a happy, content elder cockerkid. We'll miss that hopping stepdance you managed coming through the door, your nose toss with the tennis ball and your special nudge when you wanted your head patted. You brought out the best in us. We will miss you.

Mom Juanita, Mom Pat, Eric, Mike, Megan and all the volunteers in rescue.

CHAD
APRIL 26, 2005

Chad you were the best boy in the whole wide world! I miss you so much; you were my joy! Granny misses you and your bright light. You were so young and full or life, I wish you were here by our side. We all miss you and love you. See you soon!

Mom, Granny, Princess, Elliott, Mason, Diva, Marlo, Jinx, Disco, Hailey, Aunt Karen, Aunt Allie, Uncle Rick, Aunt Pat, Aunt Gail, Aunt Kristi and everyone who loved you at Cocker Spaniel Rescue. You are why we do this!

Romeo went thru heartworm treatment and had a very hard time with it. Kevin, let Romeo sleep with him in order to keep watch on this guy to help him pull thru, but it was just not meant to be. Thanks so much for your help Kevin. We know that Romeo was a happier guy because of you.

Cocker Spaniel Rescue

Sammy was a really sweet boy and loved to play ball. He would drop that ball anywhere and run in anticipation of someone throwing it. Unfortunately usually another dog would get it but it didn't bother him. He would just go find another ball and do it all over again.
Scott called him Angel as in Buffy the Vampire's Angel because of the way the skin on top of his head pushed forward. He thought he look demented. He was a sweetie though even when he messed up the couch trying to get a ball that had rolled under it. Scott wasn't thrilled that night. So I will have a reminder of him every time I look at that spot on the couch.
KIM POPE

Wanda is rescue at its saddest. We just couldn’t defeat the years of neglect Wanda suffered. She passed the day after Thanksgiving due to a pulmonary thrombosis, a complication of the heartworm treatment.

Wanda was pulled from a high-kill shelter on October 16 thanks to the persistence of several shelter workers. Her sad eyes and slow steps reflected a deep tiredness. Our vet advised that due to an extremely bad infection, Wanda needed ear ablation surgery as soon as possible as well as heartworm treatment and time to recover from anemia caused by a heavy flea infestation.

In rescue we often have to ration heath care. We never have enough money to treat the dogs as fast as they come in. In this case not only were our funds low but there were several dogs who had already waited months for ear, eye or orthopedic surgery. Wanda would just have to wait her turn. Because we felt it would be several months before we could afford surgery, we made her as comfortable as possible by controlling ear infection with antibiotics and painkillers, treated the anemia and started heartworm treatment. It was such a gift to see Wanda improve.

A week after Wanda’s first heartworm treatment the ear infection went wild causing her head to swell. It is not optimum to perform surgery on a dog in heartworm treatment, but there was no choice. When an emergency like this happens, we say a little prayer and proceed on faith. Wanda came through the surgery with flying colors and we thought we were home free. Ten days later, just as her surgical recovery was going well, she collapsed when a dead heartworm clogged her lungs.

All who met Wanda were impressed with her gentleness, sweetness and stoicism. So many people – shelter workers, rescue volunteers, veterinarians and vet techs - worked hard to salvage Wanda’s life. We can all take comfort knowing that Wanda’s last six weeks were spent in a loving, caring foster home.

As sad as it was to lose Wanda, the fact remains that Cocker Spaniel Rescue spent nearly $1,500 trying to save her. Donations in Wanda’s memory or on behalf of your own well cared for dogs would be a wonderful way to honor Wanda’s memory and help other dogs in similar situations. Contributions can be mailed to:

This little angel with the bows in her hair is Heidi. Heidi was found abandoned in a subdivision after wandering around for days looking for the negligent family who dumped her. Heidi was covered with mats from head to toe and was covered with fleas. She had a severe case of heartworms and as hard as she tried, she did not make it through the treatments. She will be missed!
CSR

Issac was a precious boy who fought hard but lost the battle...Abandoned by his family at a shelter to die, he found love and care with one of our foster moms who tried valiantly to save him...He will be missed and it was a true tragedy and testimony to the importance of regular vaccinations.

Freeway (We lost in October, 2003)
Freeway loved life;
Freeway loved to sing; and,
Freeway fought hard to live.
We will never forget you.

With love, Rick and Allie (Foster parents) and CSR

Avery is another one of our cocker babies that did not make it thru heartworm treatment. He will be missed.

I am writing this with a sad heart. I made the decision to put buff Lady down this morning. She is now at the Rainbow. Bridge. She had come down with liver failure and was not eating. She spent the week at Bingle getting fluids and B12 in the hopes of jump starting her appetite. It didn't work. She had lost 10 pounds over the last few weeks and was very weak.
I believe she wanted me to lead her to the bridge. She could not get comfortable and her eyes were asking for help. Many of you never met Lady. I've had her since January. She was not the most adoptable and really didn't like the other dogs. She tolerated some but would really give some a hard time. She also had trust issues. John worked with her and she was better, but she really wanted to be an only dog.
She was one of the smartest dogs I have fostered and she truly loved me as I did her. She put her paw print on my heart and I am missing her a lot. I made the decision out of love for her. My regret is that I was not able to find her the forever home she wanted and deserved. Lady made a big impact on our lives while she was here. I am glad I had the honor of fostering and loving her.
