Joey FAREWELL TO JOEY.....
Joey's story is a sad one. He came into our lives several months ago after being dumped at a vet's office with all of his belongings (crate, food, dish, blanket, etc..) in tow. We saw him sitting so sadly in his crate that we brought him home. Then, we found out his story. Joey was adopted over 10 years ago and was taken care of and loved by an older couple. He went out on walks with them...He loved them and they loved him. Unfortunately, his human companions both became ill this past year, each one entering hospitals. Their adult kids took over Joey's care by putting him in the backyard because he was having accidents. Then Joey was dumped at the vet. We just happened to be there shortly after he was abandoned. We saw a very sweet and sad dog who wanted to go home. We brought Joey into our lives. Lo and behold, Joey never had any accidents...he just needed a little attention and love. For 6 weeks, Joey was very depressed, always looking for the older couple who loved him for so long. It took awhile, but finally he began to love us and our home. He looked forward to his walks and meal times. It warmed our hearts to see him finally wag his tail. Joey was never any problem at all. We thought he would be with us for several more years but that was not meant to be. He developed cancer in his spleen and bone marrow. Pain killers finally were not enough to relieve his pain. It was a difficult decision to let our Joey boy go. He layed on his favorite quilt surrounded by 3 kids and his momma who loved on him, whispered in his ear, and cradled him as he left this world to go to a land a no pain. Joey, we will miss you. We know you will not only be waiting for us in Heaven, but also for the elderly couple who loved you for so long. |
