Jake
2005

Four years ago we adopted Millie and at that time I had seen Jake on the your web page. One year later, this very month, I saw Jake was still on the web page. I mentioned this to my wife and her reply was "See why nobody wants him, and then go get him". I brought Jake home the week before my wife and I actually got married.
Last year, in the spring, we traveled to Colorado. We took all 5 dogs in our trailer. Jake's favorite sleeping spot was always on my pillow, even in the trailer. Jake and Brandi spent one day hiking thru the Black Canyon of Gunnison with us.
He went to Missouri and Tennessee in the fall. This year he visited Florida and South Carolina. He always loved the water and liked to wade, but the waves on the beach in Florida seemed to surprise him. He wasn't sure what that was all about.
This morning we said goodbye to Jake.
Monday, Jake was his normal, happy self. He spent an hour chasing the sprinkler in the yard. Thursday, he couldn't stand up. Jake had an immune deficient disorder , the whole name of which I can not recall. He was basically destroying his own blood cells and not getting enough oxygen. We never even knew. Almost any activity caused him to pass out. You had to catch him after he urinated to keep him from falling in it. We tried the treatment but Jake was too far gone to last through it. He got continually weaker, his kidneys were failing and yesterday, he would not eat. This morning, at 9:00 am, Jake took his final car ride (another of his favorite activities). I held him up by the window so he could feel the breeze in his face. I pointed out each car that passed, one week ago he would have barked at each one. His mom and I held him close, as he fell asleep for the last time. Jake will join 2 sisters that he never met, at the Rainbow Bridge.
I cry as I type this email for I miss my little boy so, but I wanted to share a little bit of Jake's life with you, the people who saved him, so that we could enjoy him.
Thank You for allowing us the chance to love our little "anniversary boy".
