This is Jodi. Like so many other dogs that come into rescue, Jodi had not been
spayed. In Jodi's case she was not only unspayed, she was sitting in a shelter scared,
sick and pregnant. We brought Jodi into foster care and tried to clear up her cough.
We don't usually like to medicate pregnant dogs, but in Jodi's case she really need the
antibiotics. Although she didn't look like it was her time, on June 6 she started
looking for a place to have her puppies. She went through a very uncomfortable labor
for more than twenty-four hours and her foster family was very concerned. Finally at
3am on June 8, the first puppy started into the world. But this wasn't going to be easy!
The first born pup was emerging tail-end first and at 12 ounces, he was about twice the
usual size of a cocker new born! Within 10 minutes the second puppy arrived, she too,
came out backwards! Soon the little boy and girl, called Donnie and Marie by their
foster family were nursing and doing well. About an hour after Marie was born, yet
another boy was born. Like his brother and sister, this pup came out backwards and
required human intervention. Named Jimmie by the foster family (these names can changed), this little black and tan pup weighed 9 ounces. It's no wonder Jodi
was struggling with her labor.
All three puppies have grown like weeds! We don't know what breed of dog fathered these
guys, but we can be pretty sure he was big. Donnie, Marie and Jimmie turn 8 weeks old on
August 3, so they were ready to move to a forever home around August 8. Donnie and Marie have joined their new familes.
Jimmie is still looking. Momma Dog, Jodi, has also gone to her new home.
